Privet Hedge - Ligustrum vulgare

The Privet (Ligustrum vulgare) is very common in cities and towns used as a dense hedge. The Common Privet will reach a height of 3m if left untrimmed.

The leaves are lance-shaped and dark green, and if left unclipped, the off-white strongly scented, tubular summer flowers are followed by long clusters of particularly conspicuous, round black fruits in the autumn, making it a popular plant for wildlife cover.

The current height of the plants is approximately 20-40cm and they can be planted out all year round.

  • Plant in dry and exposed locations
  • Likes most well drained soils
  • Used for garden hedging
  • Planted across the UK
