The Field Maple - Acer campestre tree is a small deciduous tree which grows well in most areas particulary lime rich soils and shady areas. It is the only native maple found growing in Scotland. The Field Maple - Acer campestre thrives well when coppiced and used as a hedge on its own or part of a mixed hedge.

In folklore it is believed that hanging Field Maple branches over the door would prevent bats from entering the home. The Field Maple - Acer campestre makes an attractive tree with its distinctive maple leaves.
