The Beech tree (Fagus sylvatica) is a very attractive and classical year round tree as well as a fine native hedging plant which it is commonly used for. When used for hedging, Beech - Fagus sylvatica has beautiful orange leaves from the autumn which cling on tight all the way through to spring so offers fairly permanent screening and privacy.

In mythology the Beech - Fagus sylvatica is known as the "tree of wishes" At maturity they can reach up to 40m and are the most magnificent of trees. Both Beech - Fagus sylvatica, beech trees and beech hedging benefit from plenty of rain or watering until established.

For a single row Beech hedge we would recommend to plant at a rate of 4 trees per metre. For a staggered double row (zig zag) Beech hedge plant at a rate of 6 trees per metre.
