Wild Service Tree - Sorbus torminalis

£12.95

Sorbus torminalis - Wild Service Tree is possibly one of the rarest native species growing in the UK and is often associated with very ancient woodlands. Wild Service makes a good hedgerow tree.

The Wild Service is a medium sized deciduous tree that is often mistaken for a maple due to its leaf shape and interesting autumn colour which turns bright red and copper. Clusters of white spring flowers which once pollinated create small brown fruits that are loved by birds.

The Wild Service is sometimes called the ’Chequer Tree’ probably due to the chequered pattern on the bark. The current height is 30-50cm and can be planted out all year round.
