Hidcote Lavender, botanically known as Lavandula angustifolia ‘Hidcote’, is a popular variety of English lavender. It’s a bushy dwarf evergreen shrub with narrow, silvery-grey leaves and small deep violet-purple flowers in dense, aromatic spikes 3-4cm in length.
Hidcote prefers well-drained soil in a sheltered, sunny position. It can grow in chalk, clay, loam, sand, and can tolerate well-drained, acidic, alkaline, and neutral pH levels. It’s valued for its hardiness, strong fragrance, and ability to withstand cold winters. It’s fully hardy and does well in the UK climate, even in northern areas.
It’s also very suitable for growing in borders or as dwarf hedging and It’s extremely attractive to bees and butterflies.
Delivered as a cell grown plug plant, the current height of these Hidcote Lavender plants is approx. 15-30cm and they can be planted all year round.
