The Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) tree is a favourite with wildlife. The Hawthorn creates an attractive display in spring and autumn with its white blossom and red berries. In folklore the Hawthorn was a symbol of fertility and marriage. To fairies the Hawthorn was sacred and misfortune would fall upon anyone who felled a lone Hawthorn.
The Hawthorn (Quickthorn or May Tree) is a quick growing, common and useful hedging plant with thorny twigs creating a good barrier. Left uncut, Hawthorn can grow up to 18m. For a single row hedge, plant 4 trees per metre. For a staggered double row hedge, plant 6 trees per metre.
The current height of these trees is approximately 20-40cm and they can be planted out all year round. Each Wedding Favour consists of a single Hawthorn tree packed into a black drawstring bag then into a presentation eco friendly cotton bag.
