The Wych Elm is mainly found in the north and west of Britain, it flourishes on hillsides and near the sea and also in polluted atmospheres. Unlike most elms it freely reproduces itself by seed giving it a greater genetic diversity and a greater resistance to Dutch elm disease than the common elm which often spreads by suckers.
